Knoxville Museum of Art Hosts Stop for Sketchbook Mobile Tour

June 19, 2013 (Knoxville, TN) -- The Knoxville Museum of Art is pleased to host a stop on the new cross-country tour of the Sketchbook Project on Sunday, August 25, 1-5pm.

The Sketchbook Project Mobile Library, a customized trailer that allows parts of the collection to travel throughout the year, will be coming to Knoxville this August to share 4,500 sketchbooks from The Sketchbook Project 2013 and 'How To' themed tour, a set of sketchbooks specifically filled with tutorials, instructions, and general interpretations of the theme 'How To.'

On Sunday, August 25 from 1-5pm, the Sketchbook Project Mobile Library will be set up at Knoxville Museum of Art, where Steven and Sara Peterman, founder of The Sketchbook Project the director of Brooklyn Art Library, will be sharing this unique collection. Visitors will make a free 'library card' and will be able to browse sketchbooks by details like city and country of origin, theme, materials, profession of the artist, tag words, and more.

Interested in participating? For a $25 basic submission or $60 digitized option, you can fill the pages of a blank sketchbook and send it back to be included in this inspiring art library and have your book tour with The Mobile Library next summer.

The Brooklyn, NY based Sketchbook Project is an interactive, traveling collection of sketchbooks made by people from all over the world. Because participants are of all ages and backgrounds, from writers, to poets, to photographers, the word 'sketchbook' is a loose term for experimentation and creativity that takes form in these books. The permanent collection in New York, Brooklyn Art Library, now holds more than 27,000 sketchbooks from artists in 135 countries.

This event is one of over 30+ tour stops the project will be making on their Summer Tour. For more info visit www.sketchbookproject.com, and watch a video of the Mobile Library in action here.

The Knoxville Museum of Art celebrates the art and artists of East Tennessee, presents new art and new ideas, serves and educates diverse audiences, and enhances Knoxville’s quality of life. The museum is located in downtown Knoxville at 1050 World’s Fair Park and is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday 10am–5pm and Sunday 1pm-5pm. Admission and parking are free.
