Collectors Circle is a special membership group that provides members with a rare opportunity to learn about the world of art through a unique “behind the scenes” approach and to become involved in the museum’s permanent collection.
Members will explore the inner workings of the art world and will learn directly from the actual works of art, the artists who create them and the art experts who interpret them. The Circle will visit collections and artist’s studios locally, regionally and nationally in order to gain a broad perspective on what today’s art world has to offer.
How will I be involved in the devlopment of the Museum’s Collection?
Circle members attend the annual Purchase Reception at KMA to review selected art works that the museum has targeted as potential acquisitions. Circle members will vote on which piece(s) to purchase for the museum using funds raised through Circle membership dues.
Display labels for all acquired works will thereafter bear the following note of recognition: KMA Collectors Circle Purchase.
What does it cost and how will my dues be used?
Membership in the Circle is $600 per couple, or $450 per individual, in addition to regular KMA membership at the Gallery Circle level or above. Ninety percent of the fee is used to create a restricted acquisitions fund through which the group will purchase works of art. The other ten percent is used for annual operation expenses of the Circle.
Fun filled day and weekend trips to major art centers!
Circle trips provide exclusive opportunities to visit leading art centers and enjoy behind-the scenes experiences at leading galleries, private collections, studios and museums. Trips are guided by our curators, who are well-versed in their fields and care that you get the most out of your experience.
Past Circle trip destinations include New York City, San Francisco, Chicago, Atlanta, and Boston among others. Because KMA trips are small (20-25 people) you can interact comfortably with others who share a passion for art and learning. Participating members frequently comment that Circle trips are among their most memorable art experiences.
What type of activities will be offered to members?
Circle members participate in four to six events each year, beginning each fall. Activities include:
“Studio Safaris” visiting important area artists in their creative environment.
Visiting area private and corporate collections.
Meeting and learning from distinguished art experts at the annual Circle Chairman’s Event.
Participating in the annual Purchase Reception.
