Thyzel: Dot Lights (2004-2005)
Design Lab: Tim Thyzel

The Knoxville Museum of Art presents the playful work of New York artist Tim Thyzel February 9 through June 10, 2007 as part of its acclaimed Design Lab series.

Thyzel: Hooked (2004)

In keeping with the spirit of Design Lab, Thyzel’s whimsical constructions blur the distinctions between art Thyzel: Concrete Beer Cans (1991-1992)and life, using everyday objects to make us more aware of the aesthetic value of our surroundings. The exhibition features works from his Tiled series, assembled from bathroom tiles and plumbing fixtures, and Slots & Dots, a group of sculptures made from common pegboard, slot board, and hooks. The results are humorous, elegant, and surprising.

Thyzel studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and the Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Hamburg, Germany. He has had solo exhibitions at Cynthia Broan Gallery in New York and Deepdale Gallery in Germany. This is his first solo museum exhibition.
