This exhibition celebrates the work of artists representing the area Latino community. Together, these works of art in various styles and media reflect the perspectives and experiences of this growing sector of East Tennessee's population. KMA is pleased to present this selection in conjunction with Hispanic Heritage Month, which is observed from September 15 to October 15.

For the last nine years, HOLA, Hora Latina, the oldest Lationo cultural not-for-profit organization, has planned and executed cultural activities to celebrate our diversity and Latino contributions. For the last four years the Knoxville Museum of Art has joined HOLA in the celebration and assisted in the planning of the first ever Latino Art Exhibit in Knoxville in 2005.

Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the culture, traditions and important contributions of U.S. residents who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico, and the Spanish-speaking nations of Central America, South America and the Caribbean. September 15 was chosen as the starting point for the celebration because it is the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and 18 respectively.
